Guareschi: “We have high aims for 2011”

The Ducati Team Manager discusses the 2010 campaign with Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden and also previews 2011 in a video feature interview.

Vittoriano Guareschi reviewed his first season as Team Manager of the Ducati factory team in a special post-season interview, which can be viewed in the attached video, discussing the 2010 campaigns of Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden.

“This year has gone well and not so well for us. We suffered at the start, wasting some good opportunities, but in the end we have recovered. We started the season with a GP10 that had an engine that was unprecedented, a big bang version in contrast to the screamer that was used the year before. We had to work on the set-up for Casey and make the bike as familiar for him as possible,” said Guareschi, who continued to review the Australian’s season.

“At the start of the year, and until mid-season, we weren’t able to extract the full potential of the engine. Starting at Aragón we found a set-up that satisfied him fully and then we became main players. If it had been like this from the very start of the year then we would have been amongst those fighting for the title until the end.”

Manusia Jelajahi Sisi Gelap Bulan Tahun 2016

Pemerintahan Obama telah membatalkan rencana ambisius NASA untuk mengeksplorasi bulan. Akan tetapi tidak demikian dengan Lockheed Martin, perusahaan pertahanan, keamanan, dan teknologi ruang angkasa asal AS.

Dilaporkan, Lockheed Martin akan menggelar misi yang disebut L2-Farside. Misi ini akan mengirimkan pesawat ruang angkasa Orion ke orbit stasiuner yang berlokasi di sisi balik bulan yang tidak terlihat dari Bumi.

Seperti diketahui, efek gravitasi yang terjadi antara Bumi dan Bulan telah memperlambat rotasi Bulan. Ini menyebabkan hanya satu sisi Bulan saja yang selalu dilihat manusia.

Misi tersebut, Lockheed menyebutkan, akan memiliki beberapa tujuan. Awalnya, menggunakan robot, astronot akan mempelajari apa yang ada di Bulan yang belum pernah dilihat oleh manusia sejak misi Apollo terakhir. Selain itu, misi juga berfungsi untuk menguji coba teknologi dan skill yang dibutuhkan untuk menyiapkan misi pendaratan manusia di asteroid, dan kemudian di Mars.

Rencananya, seperti dikutip dari PopSci, 26 November 2011, kapsul ruang angkasa Orion akan diparkir di titik L2 yang berada sekitar 65 ribu kilometer dari sisi belakang Bulan. Gravitasi Bumi dan Bulan akan memungkinkan Orion melayang dan mengambil posisi yang tepat.

Dari sana, Astronot akan menggelar penelitian terhadap permukaan dari jarak jauh, mengumpulkan contoh-contoh bebatuan dan mengamati lembah Aitken di kutub selatan Bulan, yang merupakan salah satu kawah yang tertua di sistem tata surya kita. Dari titik L2, kapsul akan terus berada di garis lurus dengan Bumi dan sisi balik Bulan.

Selain itu, misi jangka menengah itu juga akan menguji coba daya tahan baik kru dan kendaraan selama beberapa kali perjalanan satu bulan sebelum berusaha untuk melakukan misi ke asteroid. Misi yang diperkirakan akan berlangsung selama 6 bulan ini juga bertujuan memastikan kapsul dan tubuh astronot mampu bertahan terhadap radiasi ruang angkasa.

Dengan misi ini, Lockheed dan NASA juga ingin mencoba perjalanan masuk kembali ke atmosfir dengan kecepatan hingga 50 persen lebih tinggi. Uji coba ini perlu dilakukan agar pesawat ulang alik di masa depan dapat kembali lebih cepat dari ruang angkasa.

Terakhir, astronot di misi L2-Farside ini juga akan pergi 15 persen lebih jauh dari Bumi dibandingkan dengan yang dilakukan oleh astronot Apollo dan menghabiskan waktu tiga kali lebih banyak. Intinya, misi L2-Farside merupakan batu loncatan untuk mengetahui stamina manusia dan teknologi yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan langkah selanjutnya di ruang angkasa.

Tentunya, dalam melaksanakan uji coba ini, Lockheed tidak sendiri. Mereka membutuhkan bantuan NASA untuk mengorbitkan kendaraan tersebut ke ruang angkasa. Jika peluncur jadi dibuat, Lockheed memperkirakan bahwa misi L2-Farside akan dapat digelar pada tahun 2016 mendatang.

State of Indiana presents Hayden with award

Nicky Hayden earned the Executive Director's Award presented by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) for his dedication and service to the Indiana Motorcycle Safety and the Awareness campaign.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Senior Vice President Mel Harder accepted the award on Hayden's behalf from ICJI Executive Director T. Neil Moore at the 16th annual Operation Pull Over Awards Banquet on Nov. 19 in Carmel, Ind. The ICJI and Governor's Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving played host to the banquet.

"I'm honored to receive this award," Hayden said. "It's been great to work with everyone from the ICJI on this project. I know how great riding motorcycles can be when done the right way, and I'm happy to help increase awareness of safety for all riders in Indiana and everywhere."

Ducati Team star Hayden lent his time and talent to endorse safe, sober riding by all motorcyclists across Indiana. He was featured in many radio and television spots warning against drinking and riding and speeding, and promoting motorist awareness and the use of a helmet and other safety gear. Hayden also was featured in the outdoor and print advertising portion of the popular campaign.
